A large insect that relies on scavenging to survive. Zebesian Roaches are oversized vermin that have lived throughout the cracks and crevices of Zebes for millions of years. Due to their resilience and ability to survive on practically nothing for months on end, the Zebesian Roach is the absolute definition of a survivor. The Zebesian Roach is able to live in almost any climate, but they prefer areas that are not well-lit and void of life. They are surprisingly docile creatures and will usually flee when threatened; however, they have no qualms against devouring rotting corpses. While feeding, the Roach secretes a toxin which causes its prey to break down, allowing it to easily consume any organic substance. Although this toxin is highly volatile, they do not actively hunt live prey.

Zebesian Roaches are in no way a threat, and are unable to be attacked. They scatter and disappear when Samus approaches. They are famously seen ravaging the corpse of an unidentified scout of the Galactic Federation Army who was killed after discovering the new lair the Space Pirates had built for Kraid.

Although unconfirmed, Parasites from Metroid Prime could have been inspired by these bugs, as they both have very similar characteristics. Their true name is unknown.
