Besides floating organisms like the Puromi, Magdollites are one of the few large and exotic creatures that are shown to live exclusively in the depths of Norfair. These bizarre humanoid monsters not only live near the surface of the lava, but wear it like it’s their natural skin coating. It provides offensive as well as defensive benefits, although they prefer to leave their eyes and mouth unobstructed by it. Madgollites are often seen lurking with their faces slightly raised above the lava, and will attack intruders by ducking their heads beneath the surface and then stretching out one of their arms to fling packets of lava at their target. The extension of their arm depends on the height of the target, and they seem to be quite adept in their aim.

Magdollites can only be killed with a Super Missile or Power Bomb. The Ice Beam can be effectively used to freeze them and then safely run past, but the only other purpose for beam weapons is to shoot down the three lava projectiles that they toss.

The concept artwork for Other M revealed interesting information about a Magdollite’s skeletal frame and anatomy. One of the highlights was the creature’s ability to adjust their amorphous form in order to open their mouths incredibly wide. This behavior was displayed for the first time in this title.
