(Pronounced "Foo-nay," not "Foon") A large serpent that lives in walls. Like the Namihe, only the Fune's head is visible when it is encountered, and they can both survive under lava. Since the Fune has no eyeballs, it has developed an acute sense of hearing to attack any trespassers. The Fune has a special gland on the roof of its oral cavity, which allows it to expectorate large globules of an unknown substance at will. The substance is highly volatile, and will immediately ignite when it comes in contact with the air, making it seem as though the Fune can spit blue fireballs.

Funes can be destroyed with a Power Bomb or a Super Missile. However, they are easy enough to avoid by just freezing them with the Ice Beam. One can even stand on top of their heads without receiving damage and use them as a platform.

There is a room in Norfair where a Fune can be killed which gives Samus access to a hidden passage that leads to an Energy Tank.

The Fune is a very good example of an H.R. Giger-inspired enemy design in Super Metroid.
