As Samus explores the upper lava-filled caverns of Norfair, she will eventually encounter these peculiar organisms that continuously leap and flip back down into the lava. They don’t appear to alter their behavior in response to human presence, and like many other creatures in Zebes, they make use of a biological combustion system to propel themselves.

Squeepts can’t be harmed with beam weapons, but they can be temporarily frozen with a single Ice Beam shot and can also serve as a makeshift platform. It’s not particularly useful to use them as a platform, so freezing them in place or simply leaping over them will typically suffice. They can only be killed with Power Bombs, Super Missiles, or Screw Attack.
