Sector 1, or SRX, is an artificially recreated habitat of SR388's main cave areas. The planet's unique climate is achieved using special atmospheric stabilizers spread throughout the Sector.

Adam puts you on a quest to fix the atmospheric stabilizers that have been infected by Gelon - a cluster of X whose purpose is to create a barrier or clog. There are five stabilizers in all. The infected stabilizers help the X proliferate, so it is important that Samus must destroy them or else the local wildlife will perish.

You will be given a few cues when you come into a room that has an infected stabilizer. One, there is a hazy fog, and two, you will hear a sound resembling squeaky machinery. Two well-placed missiles will destroy the X infection and normalize the atmosphere in that room once again.

A hidden Gamecube can be found on the upper left corner of the infected stabilizer sprite. It is thought that this was a nod to Metroid Prime, as both Fusion and Prime were released on the same day.
