These aquatic creatures have distinctive bone-like plating covering their entire bodies, but the mutated X parasite forms have even greater protection. Skultera are known to display a variety of attack behaviors, from persistently chasing their prey, to trying to rip pieces off of their victims while swimming at fast speeds. The Skultera-X don’t swim as aggressively aboard the B.S.L, but what they lose in swiftness, they make up for in armor and alternate mutations. Parasites from deceased Skultera-X will sometimes quickly manifest into adult-sized Skultera or an extremely dangerous swimming Zebesian.

It can be difficult to evade Skultera before acquiring the Gravity suit, so unless you can quickly jump out of the fish tanks, it might be useful to eliminate the Skultera obstacles before proceeding. Fire at them as fast as possible with high-powered (Charge) Beams, three Missiles, or quickly dispose of them with a Super Missile.

Fusion was the first game to show the difference in size between the young and adult Skultera.
