Torizo (Gold)

Boss
  • Torizo (Gold)
Artist: Crovirus
Planet
Zebes
Region
Norfair

Compared to the first Torizo miniboss that Samus encountered in Crateria, the Golden Torizo is a much more formidable adversary, with a wider arsenal of attacks and defensive maneuvers. It acts as a final line of defense to guard one of the Chozo’s most iconic power-ups: the Screw Attack.

After Samus falls through the Pit Blocks and moves to the end of the room, the Golden Torizo will fall out of a hidden compartment in the ceiling. It will land right in front of the door -- so move out the way -- and will proceed to stand up and change its hue. Its green-colored abdomen is the vulnerable region, just like for the previous Torizo, but this time, the Golden Torizo can dodge all standard Missiles and even catch a Super Missile in midair and toss the explosives back at Samus. Since the Torizo can only hold one missile at a time, it can’t defend itself from a steady barrage of them, however this makes Charge Beam attacks (preferably with Plasma Beam configurations) a much more effective strategy.

The Torizo will walk back and forth, occasionally hopping forward or backwards, and mix in a variety of short range or long range energy attacks. Use the Space Jump ability to somersault and leap over its attacks, and continue to fire fully charged shots at its abdomen. This can be done from a distance, but it can also be highly effective to do this at point blank range. The latter method can be even more effective, due to a glitch in the Torizo’s jumping ability. The Torizo will turn darker shades as it receives more damage.

As the Torizo is close to dying, it can perform a bizarre attack where it appears to launch a handful of grey egg-like spheres out of its body. These mysterious eggs will then quickly “hatch” and small bird-like creatures (or bird heads, with eyes and a beak) will fly out horizontally to cause damage.

The area where the Torizo fell out of ceiling can be blown up with a Power Bomb, and even during the battle, Samus can Space Jump up into the compartment and find a Super Missile expansion.
