  • Misc

A bizarre creature seen fluttering about in ruins all over SR388. The Septogg has enormous bioluminescent eyes and a massive body held aloft by two delicate wings. The creature’s body vaguely resembles a floating platform, but due to its enormous weight, the Septogg cannot take on a load, or it will rapidly sink to the floor. Septoggs are nearly indestructible, possessing special armor that can absorb any Beam or Missile attack. Despite possessing two large pincers, the Septogg is extremely docile and will not struggle, even when stepped on. Although a Septogg has never been observed feeding, it is suspected they live on cave fungus, as they are often observed flying over damp, sandy soil. It truly is one of the strangest creatures on the entire planet.

Septoggs are indestructible, but will not harm Samus on impact. When Samus stands on them, they will quickly fall to the floor of the cave. When Samus steps off, they will slowly float to the top again, so you can slow their descent by jumping up and down on them rapidly. This can be helpful in the large cavern at the end of the Omega Zone. However, when they are found over sand pits, they can be a major hindrance to progress because Samus will sink into the sand with them, making it necessary to shoot her way out.

The Japanese name for the Septogg is Septoe (セプトウ), perhaps a play on “Step-toe” rather than an etymological reference to "sept", the Latin word for "seven".
