Gelatinous bioluminescent organism that floats in the dark caverns connecting to Ruins Area 3. Their quiet, calming glow has been compared to a string of lanterns hung at festivals. The Flitt is protected by a thick transparent membrane that is sturdy enough to provide support and is impervious to beams and Missiles. Flitts feed by ingesting a rare type of radioactive fungus found only within this area of the caverns, which causes them to glow softly in the pitch darkness. While the Flitt can float about the caverns freely, it gets its name from the ability to briefly phase in and out of existence due to the electromagnetic properties of their internal organs, an ability that has yet to be fully explained by xenobiologists.

Indestructible, but will also not deal damage to Samus on impact. Flitts will appear as platforms over the dangerous liquid that can be used in case Samus has not collected the Space Jump. Beyond that, they can make Space Jumping difficult. Flitts appear in two tunnels. In the left tunnel, they will float backwards and forwards, and will not disappear. In the right, they remain stationary, and will briefly disappear once every two seconds, then quickly reappear.

The Japanese manual states that the Flitt will "disappear", but the English manual says it will "hide itself". Does the Flitt hide in a hole in the wall or phase out of existence? Although the concept art shows the thickest part of the Flitt's membrane is on its top and bottom, perhaps the art should probably be turned 90 degrees, as the in-game graphics depict the thickest parts on its sides... Such questions will forever haunt the mind of the over-serious gamer.
