The Plasma Trooper is a Space Pirate armed with Plasma Beam technology. Space Pirates have reverse-engineered several weapons, including the Plasma Beam. A flaw in the design makes these Pirates vulnerable to their own Beam weapon system. These weapons are inferior to the Chozo-designed originals, but still quite potent.

Plasma Troopers are only vulnerable to Plasma Beam attacks. However, since the Plasma Beam is Samus's most powerful weapon, they are the most easily dispatched out of all the Beam Troopers. Use the B button to dodge their attacks and circle around them while quickly pumping them full of Plasma, using crates and pillars for cover. Compared to firing rapidly, the Flamethrower is redundant due to its limited range.

The Space Pirate Log entry, "Hunter Weapons" foreshadows the appearance of Plasma Troopers and other Beam Pirates.
