The Holtz is an armor-plated flying monster that swoops down from the ceiling at Samus. It has two large horns on its head, giving it the overall resemblance to battle helmets of ancient yore. The Holtz propels itself through the air by emitting superheated gas from its underside, allowing it to move through the air suddenly at high speeds.

Holtzes can be avoided in much the same way as the Rio, by leaping in the air as it swoops down. However, because they appear over lava pits, it is often necessary to destroy them before proceeding. Disable them using an Ice Beam or destroy them in a single hit with a missile or Screw Attack.
