Mother Brain
- Planet
- Zebes
- Region
- Tourian
A huge, organic supercomputer encased in a transparent glass container. The Mother Brain controls nearly every life-form on Zebes through her strong telepathic powers, bending them to her will. She is certainly a “mother†to her children, but a parent who rules with an iron rod of authority. Mother Brain’s cold, logic-based thought processes show no sign of emotion, yet she is fed nutrients by the Zeebetites and is bathed in warm, life-sustaining fluids. She infuses life-force into the planet’s every rock through her telepathic and biomechanical systems, truly making her deserving of the title “mechanical life-veinâ€. Mother Brain intends to use the unstoppable power of the Metroid to take control over the entire universe and must be stopped at all costs.
Mother Brain can only be damaged by missiles, but her protective case is destroyed with just a single missile. Since you can only have one missile on-screen at a time, the closer you get, the faster you can destroy her. If you stand over the ruins of the last Zeebetite, you can fire a steady stream of missiles, but you must be constantly wary of Rinkas flying about the room, as they can easily knock you into the pit in front of Mother Brain. Lead the Rinkas away by jumping behind the Zeebetite’s reminas and freezing them with the Ice Beam or destroying them with the Screw Attack. Quickly jump back to the platform and blast away. You will be able to fire five or so missiles before the Rinkas unfreeze or reappear.. When that happens, jump back and repeat the process. If you fall in pit, the liquid will slowly drain your health. The only way to get out is by freezing a Rinka and using it as a platform. This is a dangerous and tedious process, so watch the Rinkas to avoid falling in! Mother Brain will be defeated after 30 missile blasts. The faster her brain pulses, the more damage you have dealt. Unfortunately, after Mother Brain is defeated, Tourian’s self-destruct sequence will be activated, and you will have only three minutes to escape. Good luck, and don’t let the music or timer cause you to panic!
Mother Brain’s name was inspired by the supercomputer “Mother†from Alien.
