Chute Leech
- Planet
- SR388
- Region
- Main Caverns, Ruins I, Ruins II
This strange worm is bilaterally symmetrical, with two pairs of eyes and mouths on either side, giving it 360 degree vision. It lies quietly in wait in weeds or the muddy bottom of lakes, camouflaged by its tan skin. When prey approaches or it is startled, the Chute Leech leaps into the air, floating down to earth from side to side like a falling leaf. Lands on its prey to smother it before feeding. Chute Leeches are very hardy and have colonized much of the upper reaches of SR388.
The Chute Leech falls erratically, and its narrow profile makes it difficult to hit from the side. They are difficult when they jump, so wait until they fall or run beneath them. Usually jumps over pits of acid, so try to kill them while they are high in the air to make it easier to collect the energy they drop.
The Japanese name is just “Chute†(ãƒãƒ¥ãƒ¼ãƒˆ). The original artwork depicts the Chute with two mouths on either side of its body. No underside view is ever depicted, so it is unclear if there is a third mouth beneath, but the Chutes in Sector 5 (ARC) in Metroid Fusion dribble acid from a mouth on their underside.
