Halzyn
- Planet
- SR388
- Region
- Main Caverns, Ruins III, Ruins IV
Giant insect-like organism that flutters about the caverns unsteadily. The Halzyn is characterized by its enormous shell that is filled with a helium-like substance, the regulation of which keeps the creature aloft. However, it requires considerable effort for the Halzyn to maintain a steady flight pattern, resulting in the creature’s drunken movements. Its thick shell is impervious to beams and Missiles, and can be closed to protect the Halzyn’s comparatively small body. A relatively benign creature, the Halzyn feeds on fungus and carrion, and was never observed actively hunting during Samus’s mission to SR388.
The Halzyn’s shell will absorb beams and Missiles, so must be attacked from below or above. However, it can also be destroyed with the Screw Attack. The Halzyn flutters about drunkenly, which screws up Space Jumping, particularly in narrow shafts. Try to avoid contact, as it will deal lots of damage on impact, especially if you do not have the Varia equipped. When it first appears, the Halzyn will move to the right, so it will impede your progress if you move in that direction.
Halzyn's Japanese name is "Harasan" (ãƒãƒ©ã‚µãƒ³). "Hara" is Japanese onomatopoeia and used two ways: depicting someone who is in suspense, nervous, or on edge, and describing the motion of fluttering about, so its name is literally, "Mr. Flutter", or "Mr. Flappy".
When the Halzyn was infected by the X parasite in Metroid Fusion, it would close its shell and try to crush Samus if she ran beneath. Due to the Halzyn’s relatively benign antics in Metroid II, it is thought this aggression is attributed to the X parasite mutation.
