God of War

Boss
  • God of War
Artist: Crovirus
Planet
Zebes
Region
Chozodia

A mysterious, ghostly statue in the shape of the Chozo God of War. When Samus comes upon this room wearing only her Zero Suit, the God of War challenges her, and makes her face her greatest enemy: herself. The God of War is most likely a hologram of a stationary statue, projected to seem like it's carrying the mirrored orb. This orb holds the key to unlocking Samus's Legendary Power Suit, and is something only she can receive.

Hundreds of years ago, before swearing to become a completely peaceful and pacifistic race of creatures, the Chozo were a highly warring race. They used the image of the God of War to help inspire them in times of battle. Samus's Power Suit is based highly on the design of the Chozo God of War.

The mirrored orb in the center of the room will glow and change from a reflection of Samus to another pattern. When the pattern appears, shoot it with your Paralyzer gun. The orb will then begin to float, and the God of War will appear. It moves in a wavy, counter-clockwise pattern around the room. Wait until the orb changes back into the pattern and instantly shoot it. Don't shoot it while it reveals your reflection, for it will harm you. Avoid the lightning bolts that it shoots as well, it will pulsate right before it shoots them. After 4 hits, you will defeat this miniboss and acquire the Legendary, Full-Powered Gravity Suit, along with the ability to use Space Jump and the Plasma Beam!

US patent 2005/0170888 (filed 2/1/05) describes the boss fight where Samus must shoot the mirror when it becomes a certain pattern, or else she will harm herself.

Retro Studios developers have stated that this boss battle was one of the inspirations to create Dark Samus.

The Official Nintendo Power Strategy Guide refers to this boss battle as the "Ruins Test."
