Hey everyone, I wanted to let you know that I just created a new page on the site: T-shirts. This page is a showcase of every Metroid or Samus-related t-shirt that you can get over at Once Upon A Tee. (The link to this page is also found under the Main submenu above.)

 

Once Upon A Tee’s site unfortunately doesn’t have a search bar or an easy way to find these unless you browse through each individual artist. This resolves that, making it super easy to view all the Metroid designs they have available. Enjoy~!

The Bosses – Upcoming Poster Print!

Today I’d like to unveil to you a very special new product. Anyone who’s been following our social media accounts should be aware of this print: The Bosses. I have been waiting for months to finally make this available to you and now it’s within our grasp. As of this writing, the poster is being produced at the printmaker and will be made available later this month!

 

You can see the listing for it at our store here.

 

Many of you have expressed a lot of excitement for this print and I can’t wait until it’s in your hands. At a whopping 18″x24″, the poster is massive and should be something any fan of Super Metroid would be proud to have hanging on their wall. Just make sure you put this baby in a frame! 

 

We’ll make another post everywhere when the print is available to purchase. The first run will be 100 prints but if there is enough demand, we may have more made. Until then, see you next mission!

Freeze Metroid Assist Trophies in Smash

Nice little easter egg found in Smash Ultimate. Apparently you can freeze the Metroid assist trophy and destroy the Metroid if you have access to a freezing weapon of any kind. There are 4 characters in the game that have freezing attacks: Lucas, Ice Climbers, Mr. Game & Watch, and Hero.

 

All other characters can use the Freezie item (pictured) and throw it at the Metroid. After being frozen, Samus takes 4 normal Missiles or 3 Super Missiles to destroy it.

Metroid Mods add Samus and More to LOZ: Breath of the Wild

Traverse Hyrule in style with these three excellent mods, created by Yainskofso. These Metroid Mods allow new models, outfits and music, from the Metroid universe, to be integrated into the Wii U version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The mods are accessible trough a Wii U with custom firmware, or via Cemu (Instructions at the end of this post).

 

 

Samus Saves Hyrule, in this Awesome Metroid Mod

Features of the Samus Mod:

 

Replaces Samus (without armor) over Link, with voice replacement too

9 costume sets are featured, also dyeables in each color shown in the game:

  • The power suit from Metroid other M over the Ancient armor
  • (this one has a downloable standalone file, for other character usage)
  • The zero suit from from SSB4 and Metroid other M over Of the Wild set
  • The sport outfit from Metroid Zero Mission over the Climber set
  • A Warm Jacket designed from a Metroid other M militar outfit
  • A new design for the Champion tunic based on the Chozo design
  • A custom set based on the female travelers (UMii) over the Hylian set
  • A custom set designed from the Worn set
  • A new designed Barbarian set
  • A custom Switch shirt with 3 designs (WiiU, CemU and Switch) (The download come individually, so you can choice one)

Also, a baby Metroid design replaces the paraglider.

 

 

Transform Link’s motorbike into

Samus’ iconic Ship

 

The Gunship Mod turns Link’s Master Cycle Zero motorbike into Samus’ trademark ride. The Gunship, of course, is limited to the same actions as the Master Cycle and its design is smaller and very reminscent of the Gunship in Metroid Blast from Nintendo Land (Wii U).

The Other M that Never Was

Metroid Other M. A very polarizing game in the community, which will be celebrating its 10 year anniversary in August. Over the last 10 years the game has received countless criticism online and has been talked about in great length by many YouTube documentarians. Some of it good, some of it bad, and some of it downright incendiary and exaggerated. Anyone who knows Metroid, knows Other M and the blight it brought onto the series. Some people may think its criticism has been talked about to death, but I believe there’s always more.

 

Today we bring you a special video that was released a couple days ago. The author reached out to me several months ago about using some of our assets and I gladly obliged. He’s created a video that ALL Metroid fans should watch. It breaks down the deep flaws within the localization of the game’s script, which likely contributed to its overall negative reaction. When you communicate an idea, it’s imperative that you do it clearly or else you’re going to alienate your audience. After watching this video, I’ve come to realize how many times the dialogue was watered down for English speaking audiences, which made the game’s metaphors, hyperbole, and clever (yes!) scriptwriting within the Japanese version completely disappear.

 

This doesn’t absolve the game’s sins completely; it lets us understand that the game could have been better understood and not misinterpreted as something which made many fans believe was a display of Samus’s submissiveness – a personality trait which we’ve understood she is the absolute furthest from.

 

I highly recommend taking ~50min out of your day to watch this eloquent, masterfully organized video which breaks down Other M‘s many aspects that were lost in translation and why it caused the English version to not be the Metroid game that everyone had hoped it would be.

Paper Mario: Origami King and MP Metal Remix

First news of the morning! Nintendo announced a brand new game in the Paper Mario franchise, Paper Mario: The Origami King. Watch the trailer below and stay all the way til the end.

You’ll notice there’s a big ol’ Metroid reference where Samus’s helmet falls on Mario’s head. A lot of rumors mulling about with this seemingly random cameo. People have stated online that this confirms that Nintendo has been creating a Metroid Fusion remake (assumedly for Switch). We don’t like to post a lot of rumors on this site very often, but all we can say is don’t believe it until it happens.

It’s-a me…Samus?

The second bit of news is we have been shared this awesome metal-style remix of Metroid Prime’s opening title theme c/o musician Adrien Gonzales. This track uses the actual samples from the game. Oh how I wish it was barely longer than a minute!
