This darkling Grenchler has absorbed the power of the Grapple Beam. It will fire the beam to snare potential meals and pull them into its waiting jaws. The beam is powerful, and can attach to most surfaces, including your armor. Its eye region is sensitive: damage in the area can induce a state of anger in the target. A weak spot under the back shell is a prime target as well. When angered, it will use a special attack.

The Grapple Guardian will charge with its jaws as its primary attack. Targeting its eye is necessary to make it vulnerable to damage. When a sufficient amount of damage has been dealt to its eye, it will attempt to grapple Samus and pull her into its jaws. It is recommended to dodge this attack such that the grapple beam is directed at one of the two electric pillars in the room. Doing so will cause the Grapple Guardian to become ensnared, at which time its backside is vulnerable, particularly to Super Missiles. Standing in front of or behind the pillars before dodging is advisable.

During the final phase of the fight, the pillars are no longer usable, and Samus must target the creature’s back without them.
