The Chozo Archives in Metroid Dread may seem a little abstract on first glance, but in this video we discover that there may be a narrative telling us more about the past of ZDR. Hope you enjoy it! – Orpheon
Last night were The Game Awards, an award show that is basically a thinly veiled way of showing new trailers and making big new announcements for AAA titles. Highlight of the night was when Metroid Dread took home the Best Action Adventure Game. You can see Nintendo’s thank you tweet below:
Thank you for voting #MetroidDread as the Best Action/Adventure Game this year at #TheGameAwards!
We’re so honored to hear that the action filled adventure of Samus’ latest mission was dreadfully satisfying! pic.twitter.com/ByE8DxbKdx

And Doug Bowser’s acceptance speech (where he is clearly a little nervous!):

On behalf of this website and the Metroid community at large, I’d like to congratulate the entire staff and all contributors to Metroid Dread. Thank you so much for making the game we have waited so long to play.
Japanese fan yassu_yassu has found another quick way to defeat Kraid in Dread, by using the Flash Shift & Super Missiles during his second phase. Get straight to the nitty-gritty by checking out the video clip from his Twitter account below, or watch the full boss-battle from yassu_yassu ‘s YT channel here. Very cool stuff, can’t wait for more awesome secrets like this to be uncovered!

Required viewing for Metroid fans. Incredible retrospective by Critical Kate.
Brie recently posted this on her Instagram page. In case you’ve been living under a rock the last year or two, Brie has been outspoken in her love for Metroid and Samus and expressed how she would love to play her in a possible movie. Heated arguments ensued.
While I personally don’t think Brie would be a good fit for Samus, I would not be protesting or dying on that hill. My preferences for any kind of show-based Metroid content would strictly animated, either 2D or a 3D cel-shaded animated series like Pacific Rim: The Black on Netflix.

Nintendo still pumping out the ads for Dread. Looks like they’re going to push it as hard as they can for the holiday season.
This is a nice Halloween surprise! Sure, you already own it, but please, tell your friends, family, co-workers… EVERYONE with a Switch! They all need to play Metroid Dread! There’s no excuse now!
Wishing all of you a Spooky Halloween!
Time to amp up the dread for an early Halloween treat.

Finally, it’s here. The full scan of Metroid Mission Logs, which is the title of the art book that came with Metroid Dread Special Edition, is available on our site. This 192-page book is an amazing trip down memory lane, as well as a close look into the concept art behind MercurySteam’s incredible Metroid Dread. Their concept artists are incredibly talented and this book is a testament to all of the hard work that was put into the game.
Sadly, the book doesn’t contain all of the classic key art that was released over the last 35 years. Notably missing is a bunch of stuff from Zero Mission – Mother Brain, Ridley, Ridley Robot, King Worm, Mua, the 3 forms of Kiru Giru, the Ruins test, the Chozo tribes art, and worst of all, absolutely NO Zero Suit Samus! Not a single image of her in the entire book. It’s kind of baffling, honestly.
Maybe some of you have seen other scans of this art book floating elsewhere around the internet. I’ve seen one scan myself and I can’t say I enjoyed looking at it, the scan quality was…subpar, to say the least. Settle for nothing less. It took me a while since I scanned it at 600dpi and then cleaned up and adjusted the levels for each page, one at a time. Anyway, hope you enjoy it!

I’m a little late on this one but better late than never!
We are all beyond grateful and happy about Metroid Dread. The staff and I had numerous chats and texts while playing the game and I enjoy talking all about it and the game’s lore with the community at large. Pardon my French, but it’s a fucking amazing time to be a Metroid fan. I haven’t felt this good about Metroid since Prime 3 came out. I’ve been continuously active on Twitter more than ever, trying to keep up with the hundreds of posts about the game. From what I gathered, y’all really love it, too. It almost feels like I was grounded for 19 years and my folks finally let me out of my bedroom. In traditional fashion, I have written and published my (relatively spoiler-free) Metroid Dread review. Please give it a read. And while I doubt any of you who are reading this are on the fence about buying it, maybe some aspects of what I wrote will ring true with you.
Secondly, today marks the 25th “silver” anniversary of Metroid Database. Twenty-five years is a long time to be online as a fansite. There are so many out there that have came and went, but we’ve stayed strong all these years, despite not being a wiki. This is mostly due to supporters like you. We are giving back by offering a discount on our store this weekend (see the next post) and continue to look for new ways to create merch you will love.
And now the bad news. This is me stating I will be officially stepping away – temporarily – from working on the Metroid Database while I look inward at my personal life and career. I will not be leaving for good but it is nearly impossible to continue working on this site at my current capacity. I hope y’all understand and give me a break, because lord I need one. At a point in the near future, I will be officially announcing my departure. It will not be permanent.
Big shoutouts to my awesome staff members Sagi, Lillith, Rue, Carl, and Lyndi, as well as all staff members who have contributed over the years, and I’ll see you next mission.
Oh and of course our founder TJ, without him, this site wouldn’t exist! Go give him a follow.
