Kiwi Talkz: Jack Mathews Interview #2
Reece at KiwiTalkz had a second interview with the lead technical engineer of Metroid Prime, Jack Mathews. Watch it here:
Prime: Metroid Reimagined
Prime: Metroid Reimagined is an audiovisual tribute to the game and is now available for viewing. It’s a very chill, relaxing remix album that I’m sure any fans of the series will enjoy.
Press release:
Metroid Prime 20th Anniversary Visual Tribute Album Premiering November 17th
In honor of Metroid Prime’s 20th anniversary, an international team of video game musicians, artists, and designers have collaborated to create a nostalgia-infused visual tribute album, Prime: Metroid Reimagined.
Prime transposes the classic themes of Kenji Yamamoto’s beloved Metroid Prime soundtrack into an intimate acoustic ensemble grounded firmly in the natural world. Compelling live performances ranging from grooving guitar rhythms, soaring vocal harmonies, enchanting piano serenades, and evocative viola solos will transport you back to the immersive world of Tallon IV.
Revisit six artfully reimagined locations with animated diorama videos, featuring the stunning artwork of Mona Finden, visual design by Jess Bruels, and animation by Zack Fenelon. Toss on your raincoat and oversized shoulder pads as you traverse the lush overgrowth and light rains of Tallon Overworld in “Space Jump,” delve into the heart-pounding, magma-infested maw of Magmoor Caverns in “Varia Suit,” and shred the half-pipes and crystalline cascades of Phendrana Drifts in “Boost Ball.”
Featuring a talented lineup of heavy-hitting musical artists:
Composed, arranged, and produced by Zeke Fenelon (aka Outset Initiative), video game remix artist and game developer on Halo Infinite.
Piano performed by Ryan Ike, two-time BAFTA-nominated composer and sound designer best known for his work on award winning games including Gunpoint, Frog Fractions 2, West of Loathing, Where the Water Tastes Like Wine, and Reigns: Game of Thrones.
Vocals, Acoustic Guitar, Bass, Mandolin, and Irish Bouzouki performed by Joshua Du Chene, vocal chameleon, multi-instrumentalist, backbone performer on Where the Water Tastes Like Wine OST, and game developer on Halo Infinite. In addition to his work as a metal vocalist and his popular Apple Bottom Jeans meme videos, Joshua also starred as Craig’s guitar in Halo Infinite, so it may be said with some authority that Craig will be tuning into the premiere of Prime from Zeta Halo.
Marimba and Percussion performed by Doug Perry, multi-talented percussionist who has been featured prominently as a soloist in popular video game scores from Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, Sid Meyer’s Civilization VI, and Fossil Hunters. He is a major contributor to the video game music record label Materia Collective and directed and co-produced the 97-track Undertale arrangement album titled FALLEN: An Undertale Tribute.
Viola performed by Andrew Steffen, distinguished violist who has performed with Mannheim Steamroller and numerous symphony orchestras. As one half of the ETHEReal String Orchestra, Andrew has contributed his viola, violin, and bass prowess to a vast number of Materia Community video game remix albums.
Mixing and Mastering by Forrester Savell, internationally renowned mixing and mastering engineer known for his genre-defying repertoire spanning influential artists such as I Built the Sky, Birds of Tokyo, Animals As Leaders, Karnivool, Dead Letter Circus, Shihad, and Twelve Foot Ninja.
Prime: Metroid Reimagined is guaranteed to have you dusting off your GameCube controller for another playthrough of Metroid Prime. Tune in November 17th for the official YouTube premiere and stay up to date on release info at metroidreimagined.com.
Zoid’s Trip Down Memory Lane
If you’re on Twitter, you might already know that Zoid Kirsh, one of the original engineers for the Metroid Prime series has been reminiscing a lot lately. Since November 7th, he’s been creating multi-Tweet stories nearly every day about how they overcame challenges during the game’s development. Some of them are incredibly interesting and insightful. Here’s one of my faves:
On the day we went gold I took a magazine poster and got everyone’s signature to commemorate that day. The poster is still on my wall today. You may notice no one signed on top of Samus–that’s how much respect we had for the character. My signature is top center, it’s my poster! pic.twitter.com/5XQz0hfhkN
— Zoid Kirsch (@ZoidCTF) November 9, 2022
Being that today is the 20th anniversary of Prime (yesterday was Fusion), Zoid has graced us with another trip down memory lane in the form of his Metroid memory box, where he shows off everything he collected during the game’s release. Most of the merch is stuff I’ve seen many times and we’ve archived it all on this very site (including a mint in box, but extremely yellowed version of the Samus Joyride Action Figure) but one thing that’s new to me is the engraved champagne glass, that were given exclusively to the development staff members when Prime went gold. Watch it below for a trip down memory lane and thank you to Zoid for being so forthcoming in all of his development stories!
Metroid SHRED – A Fan Comic by Omar Morales
Omar and Mau Mora of TheForceMedia.com have created a 100% free, awesome little 15-page fancomic of our favorite series. In it, Samus goes on a quick little adventure with her baby Metroid and together they get into some trouble. Y’all have made an amazing piece of work, here! If only we could get a real official, serialized Metroid comic…sigh.
Watch the trailer below or read it here.

1 Year of Dread – Holographic Poster Restock
Happy 1 year anniversary to Metroid Dread! I suggest you celebrate by playing the game. Maybe give Boss Rush a go?
Nintendo has also restocked its holographic posters that you can get from their MyNintendo site. Go here: http://ninten.do/6013dKOOf
Samus Aran Figma Dread Version – Preorder Links
The Dread Figma is now available to preorder. It’ll set you back about $100 after you add in shipping costs. The cost to preorder is a penny shy of $87.
And now, the heartbreaking news: Release date is October/November, 2023.
Preorder Links:
- Official GoodSmile Site (Japanese/English)
- Official GoodSmile Site (North America)
- Amazon (Japan)
- Amiami.com
- Anime Export
- Big Bad Toy Store
- Games And Movies.it (ITALY ONLY)
- Tokyo Otaku Mode
- Nin-Nin-Game.com
- Dorkside Toys
In regards to the action figure’s accessories, it will come with a standard Figma stand, Morph Ball, Omega Cannon, 2 additional hands, and a Spider Magnet. The Spider Magnet seems to have a hand and foot attached to it permanetly, so you’ll need to remove her foot and hand in order to attach her to it. I hope the underside of the Spider Magnet is actually magnetic; I know a lot of folks who want to hang Dread Samus on their fridge.
Enjoy the pics!
Metroid Dread Figma Preorder Release Date
During a livestream on the Japanese-only MaxFactory YouTube channel yesterday, they announced the preorder date for new Samus Aran Metroid Dread version Figma that all of us have been drooling over this past year: Tuesday, September 27th. We can see that she’ll come packaged with her special Omega Cannon which I am extremely happy about. I hope she does come with a few more accessories this time around, too.
Please note these images are screengrabs from a YouTube video.
You can watch the original stream here. (If the jump doesn’t work, the announcement happens at ~1:10:14)
As for exactly where to preorder, since it hasn’t been exactly revealed when the product will be released in the west, you’ll need to go through a Japanese figurine exporter. Personally I like to use Amiami, but there are many others like Hobby-Genki or Anime Export. I can’t recommend one over the other – you’ll need to shop around on your own!
Like all of you, I can’t wait to get this incredible figure in my hands.

Metroid Dread Maps
Long overdue, but better late than never, I’ve just added the maps to all the areas from Dread. You can view the entire world map (linked below) or view each area individually on our maps page. I hope you enjoy as these are some of the best maps out there.
As usual, they were created by one of the best and most passionate Metroid cartographers in the world, Daniel Dubreuil, which offers his own site, Metroid Map Station.
