Metroid Prime Visual Retrospective Launching Summer 2025
METROID AMIGOS! 2025 is shaping up to be a big year for us Metroid fans. Nintendo and Piggyback have announced Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective, a 212-page book exploring the development of the first three Metroid Prime games and Metroid Prime Remastered. Launching summer 2025, the book will feature developer insights, producer notes, and an introduction by series producer Kensuke Tanabe.
Created in collaboration with Nintendo and Retro Studios, the book offers a premium design with a stitch-bound cloth hardcover and high-quality art paper. Priced at $49.99, it will showcase Samus Aran in an etched metallic design on the cover.
Fans can expect a behind-the-scenes look at the series’ transformation from skepticism—when Metroid Prime first introduced a first-person perspective—to critical acclaim. While it won’t include details on Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, 2025 is still packed with excitement for the franchise!

Metroid Prime 4 Developer on Creating the HUD for Samus
Metroid Prime 4 has been a dream project, and my favorite part has been designing, crafting, and animating Samus’s HUD. I learned a lot during MPR, and I hope it shows. Jon Wofford, the Lead UI Artist at Retro Studios, shares his excitement about the reveal trailer for “Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.” He highlights the HUD, which he has meticulously crafted to honor the Metroid Prime legacy while incorporating modern updates. He credits Jordan Johnson for the UI technology and Nina Morris for her work on the scan holograms. Wofford details various aspects of the HUD, including its combat functionality, scanning animations, and the Morph Ball HUD. Buichi Terasawa passes away at 68
Buichi Terasawa began his manga career in 1977 when he contributed his one-off Sci-Fi Story Cobra to Weekly Shonen Jump. The popularity of this one-off story would have it go into serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump where it ran for six years, while simultaneously being released under the Jump Comics lines
For those familiar with the recent YouTube deep dives into the influences of the Metroid franchise, by the amazing investigative work of “Critical Kate” Willært, you would know that the Sci-Fi manga Space Adventure Cobra was perhaps the most influential piece of work in the creation of the Metroid series.
From the Metroid Database, RIP Buichi Terasawa, who knows where we would be without your staggering influence, style and contributions to the Sci-Fi world. Thank you.
Dataminer finds Metroid: Zero Mission Screenshots in Nintendo Switch Online (JP)
Twitter user @LuigiBlood has datamined a Nintendo Switch Online folder and found some Metroid: Zero Mission screenshots. The interesting part is that it appears that the GBA link service will be kept functional in its NSO GBA counterparts. Does this mean we will get the extra galleries & The Fusion Suit in Metroid Prime Remastered?!? Only time will tell. Again, this is all speculation based on some datamined screenshots but I have no doubt that Zero Mission is on its way, however, retaining the GBA link bonuses would be amazing!
Japanese GBA NSO 1.1.0 is interesting… they accidentally left these screenshots about link functionality in Metroid Fusion folder. pic.twitter.com/aJ0q3STmGt

You guys rock! Stellar work & dedication!
Confirmed: Metroid Dread Outsells every other Metroid Game. Metroid Prime 4 in 2022? Not Likely.
Metroid Dead reached 2.90 Million units sold according to Nintendo’s recently released financial report, making it the best-selling Metroid game in the franchise! Congrats to Nintendo, Mercury Steam and most importantly, to the fans, both old and new, for supporting the franchise! Let’s keep this momentum going!
Another interesting tidbit from the financial report is about Metroid Prime 4 with an expected (and not surprising) launch date of “TBA.” Considering that development was restarted in 2019 and staff-hirings have been ongoing, it is no big shocker that we are nowhere near an official release date.
Lets cross our fingers for some preview footage soon though!
Figma Announces Metroid Dread Samus Figure!
