Metroid Database.com

Spelunky, the brutally hard roguelike cult adventure game apparently also has a large mod scene! One of the latest, and according to BaerTaffy, the most impressive mod seen yet, is a Metroid mod by joey4track! The mod hasn't been released yet, but there's a 35 minute video of the game in action.

There are several Samus skins, including Power Suit, Varia Suit, Gravity Suit, Zero Suit, and a Space Pirate! (Sadly, no Armstrong Houston...) All the power-ups have been replaced with Metroid-themed powers, and all the enemies are replaced with Metroid enemies. There's a lot of Metroid music in there as well. It's a bit disconcerting to see Samus using a whip (grapple beam?) but it's still a WIP, so there may be a few more bells and whistles to come.

BaerTaffy isn't too familiar with the Metroid series (and acknowledges it), so his commentary provided a few chuckles. But he has a wonderful time, and I am not really excited to give it a try! So if you're listening, joey4track, we'll be more than happy to help distribute a copy of the mod (or at least point people to where it's at when it's ready for prime time!).
