Yosuke Hayashi Talks Other M's Influence on Ninja Gaiden 3
03.10.2012 - CapCom

In a recent interview with Anime News Network, Team Ninja's Yosuke Hayashi spills more secrets regarding Ninja Gaiden 3. The latest in the series covers Ryu Hayabusa's past as a ninja and how his actions in the past still haunt him today. The game promises to be far more dramatic than any previous title in the series, particularly with the pen of Masato Kato (who wrote the original Ninja Gaiden script for the NES as well as Chrono Trigger). Hayashi-san wants to also explore what it means to kill someone, and what the moral consequences of doing so are, even when fighting a demon army. He promises the battles will be far more intense and visceral! However, Hayashi-san also talks about the influence Yoshio Sakamoto had on Team Ninja's views of character development in videogames:

In Metroid Other M, we worked with [Yoshio] Sakamoto from Nintendo. One of the biggest things we learned from him was in the way he always used to say "There is emotion in every human being." He is always aware that there are fine and complex emotions in each human character. Up to now, we've made games that are mostly about sex and violence - easily understood emotions that are at two extreme ends of a scale. But the things we learned with Other M, about human emotion and human complexity, we'll try to explore that.
