MDb news since 1996.
Nintendo has kicked off marketing for Kid Icarus: Uprising with a series of six anime shorts exclusively for 3DS Video. The first of these, "Thanatos Rising", is out today. The videos are produced by Production I.G. and promise to use both 2D and 3D animation, though the current video is 3D, using what appear to be cutscene-quality models from the game. The clip is short and action-packed, with some rather ridiculous-looking giant Trojan horse automata, and Thanatos sounds far too foppish for the God of Death. If this is a sign of the narrative and support character voice acting for the actual game, I don't have high hopes. However, Pit and Palutena appear to be voiced pretty well, and we do finally see the voice actors in the credits, and they are revealed to be an all-star cast with considerable experience in videogame voice acting. Pit is voiced by Antony Del Rio, who already has some experience with Classical-themed games, voicing Young Kratos from God of War: Ghost of Sparta, while Palutena is voiced by Ali Hillis (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, StarCraft II). Thanatos is voiced by Danny Mann (Up, The Lorax). There are six Kid Icarus: Uprising anime shorts in store. The Kid Icarus Wiki has some nifty posters advertising the series, too, along with more details on the plots. Although the videos are currently only available on 3DS Video, you can bet they'll pop up on Youtube before too long.
Until next time...
