MDb news since 1996.
Jered McFerron, programmer and game collector, has created what might be the greatest Metroid mod ever. Several years ago, McFerron recreated the original Metroid in C++ for the PC, using original code and no emulation or the original ROM. He added to this a fancy save system and the Space Jump upgrade as a bonus! He never publicly released the game until now - and that was to showcase the ultimate mod. But that's not the coolest thing he did.
The thing is, McFerron's girlfriend fiancee, Jenni, also likes classic videogames. However, in all these years, she had never gotten around to playing Metroid! After a long relationship, it was finally time for him to propose, and McFerron took that game he loved most and made a modification. Sealing a room here and moving an item there, he created this surprise:
Upon realizing what had happened, Jenni turned to her fiancee, who was kneeling down beside her. OF COURSE, she said yes!! (What self-respecting bounty hunter WOULDN'T at finding an item like that?!)
Congrats on your new relationship, Jared, and thank you for sharing your creation with the world!
Note McFerron's PC version of Metroid was made in 2005, so it will run smoothly on most older PCs (though the framerate was a little choppy for my older machine in places). At just under 50MB, it's a pretty nice package for machines new and classic. The marriage proposal mod is NOT available for download.
Until next time...
