Sakurai Presents - Kid Icarus: Uprising
02.22.2012 - CapCom

Nintendo has uploaded a new video of Masahiro Sakurai, creator of Smash Bros. and director of Kid Icarus: Uprising, presenting an overview of the game. Sakurai-san goes into a lot of detail on the multiplayer and single player modes, highlighting some simple strategies and how basic weapons function. He also highlights another key attribute of the game, the Fiend's Cauldron, which you pay hearts to increase the difficulty level and potential rewards. Kid Icarus: Uprising has come a long way since March 2011 when I played it, and while I haven't tried out the finished version, I hear from Aaron Kaluzka of Nintendo World Report - and see from the video - that the game has significantly improved. It's a pretty cool 15-minute video.

Check out more on the Nintendo's official Kid Icarus: Uprising page.

In addition, if you preorder Kid Icarus: Uprising from select stores such as Gamestop, you will receive a download code for 3D Classics: Kid Icarus. The graphics have been significantly updated, but the color scheme looks like it gets quite icky at times, particularly when Pit appears over certain backgrounds.

We've always considered Kid Icarus to be a sort of sister to Metroid - both titles were developed in the same year, and many of the same people worked on both games. Kid Icarus was designed by Toru Osawa, who built most of the game single-handedly until September 1986, when the Metroid team returned from vacation to find the game far from completion before its December release date. They constantly worked overnight shifts through freezing cold weather to finally complete the game and ship it out to the factory just three days before release date! We have the whole story translated here.

Due to this strong connection between the series, we'll be giving you more updates as the game releases.

Until next time...
