Where no one can hear you scream Part: 1 Elis Takeel's boots created a loud noise when they slammed against the cold metal floor as he walked towards the more central parts of the enormous store building. The flickering blue light from the low-energy torch in his right hand travelled quickly over the literally endless number of wooden boxes, something that annoyed the already pretty irritated Takeel. -The kids should really pay more attention to their pets, he mumbled sourly for himself. But it wasn't really the 10 year old, dark-haired boy who so desperately had asked him to fetch his pet who was the centre of Takeel's anger. It was the cold rock, drifting through space, which he was standing on. The home he'd had since birth, the work he'd always hated. Ever since he by a low age found out the existence of other worlds, he'd sworn to himself that one day, he would leave the dark rock, which provided the ground beneath his feet. But all this was Elis' most private and personal thoughts, and he was really careful not to talk - or even think about them. Takeel stopped and the tiny circle of light flew anxiously around him. As the commander he was, he was no the only with permission to this part of the storing, something that had several drawbacks. Takeel listened carefully, listening was one of his most developed senses. Nothing but a weak buzz from some distant generator was heard. -Strange, Takeel mumbled slowly to himself, no living being could breathe that quietly... He began walking again and just behind the next corner, Takeel found the answer to his question. -Poor kid, he thought to himself as the maimed body of a dog appeared on the cold metal floor. Takeel kicked the still bleeding creature so it rolled over on it's back, revealing the belly. -What the? Takeel's astonishment kept him from noticing he spoke the words with a loud and clear voice. The body of the unusually big dog was literally ripped apart, the only thing to be found where the inner organs should be was a big hole. Elis Takeel didn't know far too much about the anatomy of dogs, and he didn't really want to get into other's business. Therefore, he decided that finding out what had really happened to this poor creature was somebody else's job, and if he hurried to get this carcass to that person, he might even get to sleep this night. Takeel walked several hundred yards, before he stopped for a rest. The dog was, even though it's inside was nearly empty, quite heavy. It was then his trained ears let him hear a very weak, regularly and somehow gnawing sound, something that definently not came from a generator. Carefully, Takeel put the dead animal on the ground. He really didn't mind helping people, but he gave priority to his work rather than that kind of disturbances. Takeel walked a few steps towards a stack of boxes, and listened again. The sound was still there, weaker and more irregular, but still there. -Anybody there? Takeel asked and let the light from his torch sail over the endless boxes. For a moment, the sound seemed to be replaced by a frightening silence, then it was back, faster and more regularly again. Takeel began taking long steps backward, the sound was closing up on him, something was obviously out there, something that wasn't afraid of him at all. For the first time in his boring life, Elis Takeel was afraid. Really afraid. He looked in panic in every direction, the torch sweeping through the darkness. Takeel heard from the sound that the thing was really close now, but where? The light from the torch flew desperately around him, It just had to be somewhere... And Takeel found out. He raised the torch just in time to catch a sight of the dark-greenish creature who fell on him, just before it penetrated his body with it's fangs like a piece of paper. E.SainT
